People store personal and business information on their phones, all protected by either a password or Face ID. Phone security is important. iOS 27 is Apple’s latest software update, and it is expected to have upgraded security features to protect information better.
Apple announced the new update during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference held in June 2026. It has also confirmed that the update, which is currently in Developer Beta 3, will launch the public beta version this July, with the full release happening in September 2026.
It has some new security features worth exploring.
Understanding Siri AI’s Personal Context and Data Access
iOS 27 will be introducing a smarter Siri. This new version will be able to go through your personal emails, messages, notes, and calendar to answer your questions and finish assigned tasks. For instance, if you ask Siri to find the contract you closed in the last week of May, Siri can go through your Email and Message history until it finds the contract. Apple says Siri will be able to do this using Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system to process requests that can’t be entirely handled by your iPhone.
Why it matters for founders:
This feature matters because Siri has access to all of the information on your phone. It can bring up private messages or business dealings if you don’t tailor your question properly. It can happen when you’re sharing your screen during an online meeting with a client or your team. You might assume it, but the problem isn’t that your phone has been hacked—it is that Siri has your permission to access every single bit of information on your phone.
How to manage it:
After you’ve updated your phone to iOS 27, go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → Siri and check the Personal Context settings or something similar. [The names may change when the full version is released]. You can restrict Siri from searching certain apps to keep the data on that particular app private. You can be selective with what apps you want Siri to go through. You can grant Siri access to your Calendar and Notes app, while you restrict it from accessing your emails and text messages.
Automated Password Vulnerability Remediation\
If your passwords are saved on your phone. iOS 27 can go through your accounts to flag the passwords that are weak and vulnerable to attacks. Siri can also update these passwords on your behalf to make sure you’re safe from hackers.
Why it matters for founders:
Repeating passwords is one of the main reasons why phones, accounts, businesses, etc., get hacked. If one password from one account is hacked, the hackers would probably try the same password for every other account you own. Many founders know this, but they often feel reluctant to change passwords because of the time it takes and also because they’re afraid they might end up forgetting one of them. This new iOS 27 feature is going to make changing passwords easier, so more people are encouraged to give it a try.
How to use it:
When you’ve upgraded your iPhone to iOS 27, go to the Password app → Security Recommendations. The update will automatically flag the weak and vulnerable passwords so the password changes can happen. For sensitive accounts like your banking app, it is best for you to cross-check each password change and make sure there’s nothing out of place before moving on.
Lockdown Mode: Managing Remote Team Security
Since its introduction in iOS 16, Lockdown Mode has remained the highest level of security in Apple phones. It was introduced to protect people like journalists and activists who were easy targets for advanced spyware. iOS 27 maintains the Lockdown Mode but adds an extra feature called a mobile device management (MDM) system. The update has an inbuilt status signal that alerts your IT team or Apple Business Manager to remotely confirm if Lockdown Mode is activated for each device instead of depending on the employees to do it themselves.
Why it matters for founders:
As a founder overseeing major projects like contract work, investor relations, finances, or international payments, there’s every chance you may be a target for advanced spyware. Lockdown mode has been successful in stopping advanced spyware attacks in the past. There have been confirmed cases by security researchers at Citizen Lab and Amnesty International attacks, including from NSO Group’s Pegasus.
How to set it up:
Before you can use this feature, your team’s phones has to be monitored through an MDM system. Once this is done, each employee can activate the Lockdown Mode in a few simple steps: Settings → Privacy & Security → Lockdown Mode.
You can then monitor the devices through the MDM dashboard.

Regional Security Considerations: Lagos vs. London
- Where your data is processed:
A couple of Siri’s new AI features often depend on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute whenever the iPhone can’t process a specific request. Till today, Apple hasn’t released Nigeria-specific routing details, and unlike the European Union (EU) where Siri has come up against regulatory delays linked to data protection law, Nigeria doesn’t have any enforcement authority pushing for that transparency.
If you’re a founder whose business handles contracts that are specific about what regions client data can be processed in, it is advisable to speak with your lawyer instead of working on the assumption that the feature satisfies the requirements.
- Lockdown Mode may affect how your team works:
Lockdown Mode blocks some message attachments and it disables some web features. If you depend on WhatsApp Business like many other Nigerian founders working with local vendors and clients, it can cause daily disruption communication-wise.
So instead of enabling Lockdown Mode for every employee, it might be better to enable it for the employees who are currently in charge of important projects like finances, investor relations, or large payments.
- The biggest security risks are different:
The most common cyber threats founders in Nigeria often face are account takeovers, phishing, and business email scams, especially when they’re processing cross-border deals. They happen more frequently than the advanced spyware attacks U.S-based founders face. Because of these attacks, the new password protection feature that comes with iOS 27 is arguably going to be the most important update in the software.
Recommended Companion Apps for Security
The new features included in iOS 27 aren’t direct replacements for VPNs or a password manager. Instead, they work better alongside them.
If you’re based in Nigeria, it is best to go for apps that will not give you problems when using them on local mobile networks. Some popular apps that perform well in the U.S. or U.K. do not necessarily work well on MTN, GLO, or Airtel.
These two options are worth considering because they’re reliable enough on Nigerian mobile networks:
- NordVPN
This app matches well with Siri’s new privacy controls. While Siri ensures that the information on your phone stays encrypted and protected, NordVPN ensures whatever data you send on the internet when you’re using public Wi-Fi in open places like offices, hotels, and airports, where data sent can easily get intercepted, is also protected.
NordVPN also offers a Lagos server that provides better connections for its users in Nigeria.
2. Nord Pass
This app works well with the new iOS 27 password protection feature. If you don’t trust Siri to update your passwords, or if you prefer Android phones or Windows computers and laptops, NordPass can still carry out the same thing Siri would’ve done. It also flags weak, repetitive, and vulnerable passwords. And it alerts you if your login details have been exposed in a hack.
Both apps were built by the same company, and if you intend to use both apps, buying NordVPN’s complete plan is quite cheaper than buying them separately.
Pricing Overview: NordVPN and NordPass
A standard NordVPN monthly plan costs about $14.99 monthly. But going for a long term considerably cuts down the monthly payments.
- NordVPN Basic two-year plan:
Monthly payment distribution: $3.49 / £2.61 / C$4.95 / ₦4,804
- NordVPN Complete two-year plan:
Monthly payment distribution: $4.49 / £3.36 / C$6.36 /₦6,180
- NordVPN Complete Max two-year plan:

After it’s released and you’ve updated your phone’s software to iOS 27, make sure you keep it as secure as possible. Go to your password app and, together with Siri, change every weak or vulnerable password.
Next, spend the next couple of minutes going through Siri’s Personal Context to limit what apps it has access to, especially the apps that contain private and sensitive information.
The updated Lockdown feature is only necessary if your company has already been managing its employees’ devices using an MDM system. If you’re a solo founder or your team consists of only a few people, you don’t need this feature right now. Many small businesses don’t use the MDM systems that Lockdown Mode requires. On the other hand, Siri’s privacy settings are available to anyone using iOS 27.
If you often work in open spaces and you use public Wi-Fi, getting a VPN like NordVPN is a good idea. If your business or team doesn’t strictly use Apple devices, NordPass can monitor and update passwords for all types of devices — iOS, Android, or Windows.
Editor’s Note: If you prefer an all-in-one suite over standalone tools, Norton 360 Deluxe (our affiliate partner offer) is an alternative to consider. It packages a basic VPN together with antivirus software and cloud backup for up to 5 devices, making it a budget-friendly option for general device security.
